Susan Visvanathan is Chairperson, Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. From 1983 till 1997 she was Lecturer in Sociology, Hindu College, University of Delhi.
She was Fellow Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi, from 1989 to 1992; Honorary Fellow at Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla, from 1990 to 1995; Charles Wallace Fellow to Queen’s University, Belfast, in 1997; Visiting Professor to Maison des Sciences de L’ Hommes, Paris, in 2004, and is consultant editor, Contributions to Indian Society.
She is the author of The Christians of Kerala, An Ethnography of Mysticism, Structure and Transformation andFriendship, Interiority and Mysticism. Her works of fiction include Something Barely Remembered, The Visiting Moon, Phosphorous and Stone and The Seine at Noon.
