Noorul Hasan was educated at Allahabad University and later at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, where he held a Commonwealth scholarship. He is the author of Thomas Hardy: The Sociological Imagination and has edited Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd. His translations of the poetry of Firaq Gorakhpuri appeared in the collection The Selected Poetry of Firaq Gorakhpuri. He has also contributed articles to various journals and magazines. Noorul Hasan retired as Professor of English, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong in 2004.
